  • A Milestone Walk in Fond du Lac

We had the perfect evening weather for our first-ever sunset Walk with Walker! It was nice and warm with beautiful orange leaves on the trees and a great view of Lake Winnebago. So many people came out to join us! We started our walk at the Pavilion in Lakeside Park and walked along the Harbor View trail. Lakeside Park really has something for everyone – there are beautiful hundred-year-old trees, a gorgeous fountain, a covered bridge, and plenty of athletic fields. They even have a full-sized locomotive! I’ll have to come back when they put in their kayak launch next summer!

  • River Views in Prairie du Chien

We had gorgeous sunny skies over Prairie du Chien this morning – a perfect early autumn day! Everyone met at the St. Feriole Island Park gazebo overlooking the Mississippi River for a great walk through the historic park. Did you know the whole city of Prairie du Chien was once on this island? Now it’s the site of several beautiful historic structures. We walked through the gardens around Villa Louis, a Victorian Era home, and toured their beautiful sculpture garden. We also walked down the Trail of Trees, which has one red or white oak tree planted for every president who has ever visited Prairie du Chien – 22 in all!

  • A Sunny Day in Shawano

We had the most beautiful weather in Shawano! It was warm and sunny and perfect for a Walk with Walker.

We met at Sturgeon Park along the Wolf River. In the spring, it’s a great place to see hundreds of wild sturgeon spawn just below the locks! Our walk took us down toward Kuckuc Park, and we got to see some beautiful barn quilts along the way. Did you know that Shawano County has more than 340 barn quilts? That’s more than any other county in the United States!

  • Summer Sun in Muskego

It was another hot, beautiful, summer day in Muskego! We started our Walk with Walker in Veterans Memorial Park. I was so excited to see so many children out enjoying the park. We were met by Muskego Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti, who welcomed us to her lovely city.

We headed down the boardwalk to Betty’s Woods, a beautiful 5-acre forested area on the west and south sides of the park. Did you know that the southern half of the park is a conservation area? It’s full of colorful wildflowers and endangered grasses!

We walked through the park to the old Muskego Settlement, near where DandiLion Park used to be. They still have the sign from the old Tail Spin roller coaster!

  • Enjoying Wisconsin's History in Cassville

What a beautiful day in Cassville! I’m so glad the heat and humidity didn’t stop anyone from joining us at the Stonefield Historic Site!

We started our walk in the Visitors Center, where we learned that Stonefield was originally the estate of Nelson Dewey, Wisconsin’s first governor. The site is full of amazing historic buildings, and the Agricultural Museum stands on the foundations of the old sheep barn! We were joined for our walk around the site by Girl Scout Troop 7445 and the wonderful Stonefield staff from the Wisconsin Historic Society. It was a treat to meet fellow Mercy High School alumna Jane Bernhardt – she graduated in 1941 but still loves to stay active!

  • A Visit to Wisconsin's Own National Park

We were so lucky to have a break from the spring rain for a beautiful walk along the Namekagon River in Trego! The Namekagon River Trail is part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, which is a national park right here in Wisconsin! This year is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, and I was honored to present a proclamation to Riverway Superintendent Julie Galonska proclaiming today to be 50th Anniversary of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway Day in Wisconsin.

  • A Lovely Afternoon in River Falls

What a beautiful day to kick off our first Walk with Walker of 2018! The weather in River Falls was warm with a light breeze and just the right amount of sun. Thankfully the rain held off until after our walk! The White Kinnickinnic Pathway in River Falls is a beautiful stroll along the river. Thanks to a new grant, the city has been able to expand the pathway with even more trails for the community to enjoy! We loved the scenic views of the river and a quaint stroll through downtown River Falls to round out our walk. I had so much fun talking with nurses from the local hospital and a group of homeschool students who came out to join us!

  • Crisp Fall Weather in Cable

We kicked off the 61st walk, our last of 2017, in Cable, WI. Despite the crisp fall weather on Tuesday, we started with a pontoon boat ride on Lake Namakagon. Our boat captain, Henry Rieckhoff, gave us a smooth and picturesque ride to Garmisch, USA for dinner. We enjoyed Brandy Old Fashions and a wonderful German dinner with the Wisconsin Tourism Council. I had time to talk with eight wonderful women who have been meeting once a year since college. Cable was their destination this year!

  • Light Rain in Presque Isle

It was a little rainy today, but that doesn’t discourage us from walking, and it didn’t discourage anyone from joining us for a beautiful walk in Presque Isle! We had a delightful 1.5 mile walk around the lakes and along the Presque Isle River. During the walk, Cathy Logan Weber, the Town Supervisor, pointed out the wide variety of local flora and fauna. The local American Legion was kind enough to join us, and they showed us the beautiful new Veterans Memorial that will be completed this fall!

After our walk, we had a delicious lunch at Skyview Lodge. The whole area around Presque Isle is so beautiful and natural! I’m so glad the light rain didn’t put a damper on our day – Presque Isle is a great tourist destination!
