The chilly 56° air in Minocqua the morning of my 46th Walk With Walker was a friendly reminder that fall is just around the corner! Named after the Bearskin Creek that runs alongside the path, the Bearskin State Trail provides a wonderful shaded path for bikers and walkers alike.
Our 1.7 mile walk began after breakfast at the Campanile Center which, over the years, will grow to become a heart of the arts community for northern Wisconsin. With ongoing renovations, this versatile performing arts center will host exhibitions, receptions, and countless neighborhood community events. Located in the “Island City” of Minocqua, The Campanile Center is just blocks from beautiful Lake Minocqua. Wishing them the best of luck with their ongoing transformation!
We then went over and started our hike on the Bearskin Trail, which began by crossing a pedestrian bridge over beautiful Lake Minocqua just off of Front Street. I learned that Oneida County has more lakes per square mile than most places on earth!
The Trail is mostly wooded and made for a very quiet and serene atmosphere, perfect for this chatty group of walkers to get to know each other! I met some wonderful new friends who shared stories about why they love living in the Northwoods. One family of five mentioned they were excited they could all go on this walk together before the new school year begins.
Beautiful fall colors and crisp cool air bring thousands of hikers out to enjoy Wisconsin trails. Why not gather up friends and family and take advantage of Wisconsin’s great walking trails? See you in October!
