We had the most beautiful weather in Shawano! It was warm and sunny and perfect for a Walk with Walker.
We met at Sturgeon Park along the Wolf River. In the spring, it’s a great place to see hundreds of wild sturgeon spawn just below the locks! Our walk took us down toward Kuckuc Park, and we got to see some beautiful barn quilts along the way. Did you know that Shawano County has more than 340 barn quilts? That’s more than any other county in the United States!
We walked through Kuckuc Park, which is a great place for families. They have a wonderful paved walkway called the Born Learning Trail, which has creative lessons and activities for kids posted in English, Spanish, and Menominee! There’s a lovely park shelter where we enjoyed ice tea from The Stock Market and apples from Everflow Farm & Orchard. Twig’s Beverages was kind enough to donate SunDrop water bottles for us to stay hydrated on our walk! On the way back to Sturgeon Park, we got to see more of the Wolf River and the community gardens. They’ve got so many vegetables growing!
Shawano is a great place to visit! I’m so grateful to the Shawano County Chamber of Commerce for hosting us and to the Department of Tourism for all their help in organizing this walk. We’ll see you in Prairie du Chien next month!
