Platteville gave us a warm welcome for our 58th Walk with Walker despite the weather. Intrepid folks that they are, everyone wore rain suits and brought umbrellas as we gathered at the Platteville Chamber of Commerce office. After a quick photo we began the walk.
The Roundtree Branch Trail was created as a labor of love from the community. Business owners, volunteers and local government worked together to build this 3 mile long trail open to hiking, biking, skiing and skating. A highlight of the trail, Katie’s Garden, dedicated to Katie Vassaan, beloved volunteer and wonderful young lady whom we lost too soon. The stunning gardens are maintained by volunteer Master Gardeners from the area and are worth a trip just to see, (hot tip, great wedding spot)!
We paused at the gazebo for healthy snacks (and some not-so-healthy, but delicious!) The Super 8 Motel was kind enough to share their pavilion and we stayed out of the rain and chatted. We got a chance to catch up on news in Platteville with the community leaders who joined us. It was impressive to see how all the major players – city, county, business community and University – work together!
Lunch followed at Benvenuto’s, we enjoyed wonderful food on a wet and chilly day!
Many thanks to Kathy Kopp and the Chamber for their hospitality! We enjoyed making new friends and look forward to returning!!!
