Wisconsin first lady Tonette Walker will come to Columbia County on Thursday to take a little stroll.
Her visit to the MacKenzie Environmental Center near Poynette is part of a series of monthly events called “Walk With Walker,” a series of visits to Wisconsin trails, parks and other sites to promote health and fitness while enjoying scenery.
The public is invited to the event, said MacKenzie Center Director JD Smith.
Walker is scheduled to arrive at the MacKenzie Center, W7303 Columbia County Highway CS in the town of Lowville, at 8:45 a.m. Thursday.
Joining her will be Department of Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Division Administrator Kristy Rogers, who will represent DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp.
They will meet at the South Trails parking lot.
After Walker and Klett deliver opening remarks at about 9 a.m., they will lead a guided walk of approximately two miles along one of the MacKenzie Center nature trails.
Each month, the first lady selects a different trail for the Walk With Walker event.
Anyone can join her for the walk, but Smith advises wearing good hiking footwear and bringing along items every hiker should have at all times, such as sunscreen, insect repellent, water and a hat.
